Dear Benny,
I have taken the liberty of answering to your letter to
June Meyerson
posted on Radburn Citizen’s Association web site on
October 31, 2005 and
would like to discuss a few points.
Quote: “If the Board does not sell Daly Field, it
will only be a
matter of time before all of our Radburn charges increase
tremendously in
order to keep up with rising costs and aging assets”.
Benny, may I remind
you that the similar justification was given to us by the
town authorities
to sell the idea of building condos along Route 208. But,
as we all know
too well, since then, our property taxes go only in one direction
and with
a very good pace.
Who is winning in reality from the selling Daly Field? The
town? The
town has to pay $1.25 in additional services on every dollar
it collects
from taxing new development (that’s the number given
by town engineer on
one of the town meetings). Citizens of Radburn? You better
attend one of
the Citizen Association meetings, not only Board meetings,
in order to see
– firsthand! - what people, especially those who live
nearby Daly Field,
think about that development. So, please answer this very
easy question:
who is winning from the selling Daly Field?
I do not know anyone who would question the fact that the
members of
the Board are doing a lot of hard work to run things in Radburn.
We
appreciate all these efforts. But, evidently, you are missing
the point of
the whole conflict. If it were so beneficial to us, Radburnites,
why then
this matter was not discussed openly with thorough consideration
of all
advantages and disadvantages? Why nobody from the Board apologized
for
proceeding with the deal secretly? I think the Board has a
lot of
explaining to do, don’t you agree? You may very well
be appalled by many
“accusations” from CCRF, but the nature of these
accusations is very simple
– people of Radburn ARE APPALLED by the Board’s
behaviour. And, furthermore,
none of the members of the Board is willing to participate
in Radburn
Citizen’s Association meetings when they would have
every opportunity to
justify and explain their actions.
I settled in Radburn 12 years ago after I came from the
former Soviet
Union desperately seeking a different kind of life where freedom,
liberty
and justice should prevail. And I do not want and will not
let them run
Radburn like communist bosses ran country as it were their
piggy bank. All
elected or selected officials who run things, should remember
that they can
always be held accountable for their actions.
Sincerely,
Igor Yeliseyev
